PFEM Platform

PFEM Platform

The PFEM aims to satisfy analytical and technical needs related to research labs requiring analysis of metabolism. This structure provides to the scientific community, concepts, tools and methods for the quantification and identification of metabolites and proteins in the fields of global analysis of metabolism for projects of functional genomics and integrative biology

The main activities of the PFEMcp, based on the use of mass spectrometry, concern:

  • the identification of proteins, previously separated in-gel (SDS-PAGE or two-dimensional electrophoresis) or off-gel (HPLC),
  • the semi-quantitative label-free comparison of samples for non-targeted profiling analyses (biomarkers searches),
  • the quantitative analysis of targeted proteins in complex samples,
  • the imaging to identify and locate biomarkers in tissues,
  • the development and implementation of dedicated analytical methods.

The samples analyzed come from any living organism, eukaryotic or prokaryotic, from various biological fluids, matrices or tissues and sub-proteomes.

The platform "Exploration du Métabolisme" (PFEM) is a federative technological structure comprising two major components: metabolomic (PFEMcm) and proteomic (PFEMcp).
The PFEMcm is one of the four national platforms involved in the program “investissement d’avenir [IA]” MetaboHub.
The PFEM is labeled since 2010 by the GIS IBiSA and since 2009 as national strategic platform by the INRA “Commission Nationale des Outils Collectifs (CNOC)”.
The PFEM is certified ISO 9001:2008 and NFX 50-900.
